Interesting to note where there wasn't any on the map.

Be sure to wipe down your screen and mouse, and wash your hands good when your done looking.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

Have y'all read Tom Lowry's book on The Stories that the Soldiers Didn't Tell? It is actually well-documented history, not porn.

I agree, Laurie - it's a wonderful book. Dr. Lowery also has another, Sex and the Civil War. Both books are well researched and are based on subject which received very little notice during the Civil War/Victorian era.

Laurie and Betty,
Thanks. I will look into Dr. Lowery's writings. Until I saw the article in Popular Science I hadn't given any thought to the topic of sex and soldiers during the civil war. Maybe it's a sign of aging! I was more focused on " the U.S. government's earliest sources of big data: Civil War conscription records."

I'm not sure that's a book my wife is going to let me get
Wasn't there a problem with Mr Lowery and the National Archives?

If Mr. Lowry was indeed to blame for altering that document, it is a shame because he is a very nice man, an excellent researcher, and a good writer/speaker. He is a psychiatrist by training, and I have wondered if the popularity that came quickly with his writings had such an effect on him that he desperately wanted to find something truly significant.

I should mention also that one of the Archives' "detectives" mentioned in the article that Roger posted, Mitchell Yockelson, has been a long-time member of the Surratt Society.

Yes, it is a shame that Mr. Lowry had to deface a Lincoln document for his 15 minutes(12 yrs) in the limelight. I hope he sought help from a good psychiatrist.

He probably talked to himself a lot about it. Confused

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?
