RE: News about the 2015 Lincoln Funeral Train
Joe and Gene can correct me if I am wrong, but I think it's supposed to be the Gettysburg Address (still relevant to the common man of today).

I just cannot imagine the effect of painting a bronze statue and I'd love to learn of the effect on the viewer in reality compared to the pure, traditional version - thanks much! (Maybe this is to kids more attractive? Also the young face?)

My opinion, that in painting the statue, it made Mr. Lincoln seem more like he was a real person. It made him human, gave him personality, and not a big metal sculpture.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

Thank you, Gene - I'd love to see the statue and get the "live" impression!!!

These photos are amazing. I bet I've shown them to 20 people in the last few days.

They are really great photos, and how I wish I could have been there in person. I'm showing my age now, but I swear that the sculptor used Perry Como's ca. 1960 photo as the model for the modern man in the statue!

"Joe and I chat with Mary Lincoln. She's taller than I thought she'd be"

The few books I have that mention her height say she was about 5-2. You guys must be pretty short.

That's what I thought too.
It must have been her 5" high heels

RE: News about the 2015 Lincoln Funeral Train
Many thanks to Bill Binzel for sending the following!!!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"At the end June, through no fault of my own, I was in Duluth, Minnesota. All was not lost, as I discovered that we were within walking distance of The Depot, the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center, and fabulous train museum. On display at The Depot is the 150th Anniversary replica of the train car which bore Lincoln's body back to Springfield in 1865. While the original car was constructed in 1864 to be used by the President whenever he traveled (i.e., the first version of Air Force One), Lincoln never used the car in life. The original car was destroyed by fire in 1911. The reproduction was painstakingly built by Dave Kloke of Elgin, IL.

Other than the first, which is a Library of Congress photo, I took the pictures below and grant permission to all to use them as they may wish. (I apologize for their quality as they were shot with a phone camera.)

If you find yourself in Duluth, The Depot is well worth the stop."
