The banquet speaker at the Surratt conference on April 7 is Brady Carlson, author of the very interesting book, Dead Presidents: An American Adventure into the Strange Deaths and Surprising Afterlives of our Nation's Leaders (and yes, it may be in contention for the longest book title of the 21st century!). In his chapter on President Garfield, he labels the tomb as "America's only presidential death castle."

After discussing the amazing amount of Moorish and Grecian architecture and the vivid colors in a tomb to the dead, Brady does question why it was necessary to include a full mural of the President's assassination on one of the walls - complete with assassin Guiteau advancing on his victim.
