Trying to gain interest in history
Surratt House Museum is now joining in a commercial venture with a North Carolina-based company (Mom&Pop) whose byline is "Collecting America's Story," but whose gimmick is creating "Coast to Coast Coasters." That's right, coasters that one can set their wine glass, beer mug, or water bottle on!

Each site that joins the project will be selling a packet containing a postcard of that site and a very nice, two-sided coaster. The front of the coaster has a handsome photo of the site, and the reverse has a different view of the site or something related to it. That side, however, is muted because text encompasses the reverse side. BUT, the text is mainly three questions related to the site's specific history. In order to find out the answers, one goes to http://www.c2cSites.US. The postcard that is included with the coaster is the full photo of what is muted on the coaster.

Not all historic sites, museums, attractions, etc. are eligible to participate. Those chosen must have a WOW factor - and Surratt House qualifies, one of thirteen in the state of Maryland. Other states that are currently participating include Virginia, Delaware, North Carolina, and South Carolina, with Tennessee, Georgia, and Pennsylvania currently under consideration.

Check out http://www.c2cSites.US. And, btw, our packet sells for a mere $1.50 (add 50 cents for postage). It's a fun (and inexpensive way) to get more attention drawn to history, especially for children.
