The funniest statement I have ever heard concerning Lincoln's interest in spiritualism came from the superb PBS mini-series titled "Abe and Mary Lincoln: A House Divided".

Apparently Lincoln lost interest after attending a few séances because, as he was quoted "The spirits are just like the Cabinet. They give me conflicting advice!"
