Although at least one report (from McLean family members) stated the room was simply plundered, more state that Ord gave McLean $40 - the entire contents of his wallet - for the table where Lee sat. Gen. Phil Sheridan bought the table where Grant was seated for $20 in gold. Adjusted for inflation, $40 in 1865 is worth $770.98 today. The Ord table today is in the Chicago Historical Society along with the actual bed Lincoln died in. The Grant table is in the Smithsonian.
