You are correct that it's Baker. The connection to the assassination came in 1897 when McClure's Magazine published his article on the capture of Booth based on papers from his uncle, Luther Byron Baker, who was part of the Garret Farm Patrol and who was related to Lafayette Baker, who had overall command of the search. Baker worked for the magazine until 1906 when the break with McClure's happened. In addition to writing articles under his name he also wrote under the name of David Grayson. Interestingly there are schools in Michigan named for both Baker and Grayson. Also, if you ever watch the show "Home Improvement" the character of Randy has a picture of Baker in his bedroom although it is never mentioned who it is.
