This is a topic that we need Ed Steers and Tom Turner to weigh in on. I can't comment because I'm scared of legalese. However, one comment I would make as to why they did not postpone the trial of the conspirators or the execution of Mrs. Surratt might possibily be their desire for speedy justice in this circumstance in order to put down any thoughts of further rebellion?
