Here's a Smithsonian article about the little we do know about the background of those tickets:
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-new...180982982/ The tickets were originally priced at $.75 each, which adjusted for inflation comes to a present-day cost of about $30 for the pair. I'm not sure you could get comparable seats in a present day show for as cheaply as those inflation adjusted prices. What intrigues me the most about the story is the note on the envelope holding the tickets saying they were "Complementary". Were they given to the couple by somebody working in the theater or a member of the cast so they could look into the President's box as well as have great seats for the play? |
