RE: Who is this person?
Congrats, Anita!
GREAT question, Roger!! The answer got me thinking about the books that got me interested in Lincoln and the assassination. It has been a long, long time since I last read Sandburg's Lincoln. I think the first book I read on the subject was Jim Bishop's The Day Lincoln Was Shot. As a teenager, I read a three volume paperback set of Sandburg's bio ($3, I think was the price - and each paperback had two of Sandburg's volumes). In my late twenties (and I was living in the WDC area), I bought the six-volume hardbound set of Sandburg (for all of $45, as I recall) at a used bookstore. I re-read them, but that is now 40 years ago.... I think there are better bios on Lincoln than Sandburg, but it is fun to think about the path one took to get here. |
