In my last post I mentioned that I may have a chance to speak to Michael Burlingame about his thoughts on Lincoln visiting Willie in the Carrol Tomb. In the meantime, I did look through his extensive 2 volume biography of Lincoln and found no reference to the story. As it turned out, I did not have a chance to speak to him as I had hoped but I did reach out to him and he responded to my correspondence. He stated that he, like others here who have searched, hadn't been able to find a credible primary source that supported the story.

As I mentioned previously, there are still a few leads I want to track down but at this point I am not confident I will find a credible primary source to support the story of Lincoln visiting Willie in the Carroll tomb after the funeral.
