Atzerodt's Lost Confession
Almost 50 years ago, Joan Chiconas found the original of George Atzerodt's "lost" confession in the papers of attorney William Doster. Once the Dosters ancestors understood what they possessed, they put the papers up for auction, and they were purchased by Floyd Risvold (who edited and published Louis J. Weichmann's history in 1975). Risvold died in 2009 (at age 97) and much of his collection has since been auctioned off. It is unknown whether the family has retained the original of Atzerodt's confession or sold it. Does anyone know where the original is???
