It is said that Stoddard was the first one to suggest to Lincoln that he ought to run for president. Lincoln was a lawyer in Springfield, of course, at the time. Stoddard also wrote out the Prelimenary Emancipation Proclamation in Sept. 62. His son also wrote some children’s books like his father.
