Insanity is a legal term not a medical one, so it's hard to make a judgement as to what justifies murder to the murderer. But part of the myth of America is that all is well with the government so that if assassination occurs the assassin MUST be insane... and that's how it's reported.
I believe that Zachary Taylor was poisoned by arsenic so as to prevent a Civil War in 1850. Many in the South believed that James Buchanan's 'National Hotel disease' was also a poisoning case (probably as a revenge for Taylor). Booth broke precedent by using a gun but he was playing a real life Brutus at the time. |
