Mr. Lincoln is looking fairly alert for a post mortum photo. I guess the lighting or flash could make his black hair look white, but maybe it was the embalming chemicals, or perhaps his hair had been white for a while, but that he had worn a hairpiece to make himself look younger. (It worked for Gideon Welles and Thaddeus Stevens)
