I do not know. The bottom line for me remains the same (I have asked this before): if John Surratt were in Washington why was he given such a simple assignment (calling the time at Ford's)? Why was he not sent to kill Johnson, Grant, or Stanton? It just seems strange to me that Surratt would not be given a government official to assassinate. Why would Booth go with the unreliable Atzerodt if Surratt were available to do the job? |
