Gene. I have to ask the same question. (Did he think someone was going to come after him with a Poker?) This is the only mention, that I know of, where Lincoln was concerned with a good defense. (What criteria did they use when they picked Parker?) I think Lincoln was concerned with "Happy People" crowding around his party. If Grant was there it would have been worse.- more people looking for a hand-shake, or to deliver a pat on the back. I don't think he was afraid to go.
Maybe Mary wanted the protection. She was vey jealous of people touching Abe. Who knows, maybe some doll might have kissed Abe. |
