I agree Rob, I just had no idea of the number of slaves imported to Central and South America until I read it recently. Slavery was not abolished in Brazil until 1888.
I admire the people of the underground railroad and the risks they took. This all reminds me of the wonderful issue of what is the proper ballence of responsability and control betwwen a people and its government? When the "right" people are in control, it's great. But when the "wrong" ones take over, it's a dissaster. So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |
