I just received the PDFs of the Doherty articles, which are the following in case anyone else wants to know (now or down the road): Quote:Joan L. Chaconas, "President's message", Surratt Courier, Vol XIV, No.1 (Jan 1989) I can confirm that it's the Miller article that has these points about Doherty's early life that were mentioned at the beginning of this thread: Quote:He was educated in Montreal, studying mostly in commercial schools. In 1857 he graduated from St. Hyacinth College. Immediately thereafter he began to study law with a Canadian firm. In 1859 he moved to Boston where he worked for a large dry goods establishment until the Civil War broke out. I don't think that I've seen some of these details anywhere else and this is some of the crucial information for me in terms of piecing together what I'm working on with his relatives in this period. As such, I'd like to contact Steven Miller to find out his sources on this and what else he might know. Does anyone have contact info for him? |
