What's the story on Mr. Lincoln and race tracks? Did he enjoy or ever attend horse races?

Laurie, I read somewhere that they had occasional horse races at New Salem, and Lincoln was chosen as the steward who enforced the rules and determined the winner. I am sure the New Salem "race track" itself was extremely informal; I highly doubt the officials at Keeneland would recognize its legitimacy!
