The peephole and the brace and mortise are both in some degree mysterious. Both subjects are covered in separate chapters in "Decapitating the Union". After studying the issues in some depth, I concluded that both feats of carpentry were accomplished by Booth on April 14. You are invited to read the two chapters and comment.
