Maddie, this is a description of Herold from prison guard Isaac M. Marshall. "Helped to Guard the Conspirators. Philadelphian Remembers the Appearance of Arnold and Others after Lincoln's Death." Philadelphia Inquirer. Dec 15, 1902.

"David E. Herold was handsome, and he knew it. He had long black hair and frequently pushed it above his forehead. There were many young women present-admitted by card-and to some of these he frequently bowed. One of his peculiar actions was to raise his hands so they could see his manacled wrists."
