The saddest thing I remember reading about Lincoln's final return to Illinois were signs and badges worn by some of the people that simply read "COME HOME". (Kunhardt "Twenty Days", Lewis "Myths After Lincoln")

Roger...what a horrible story! Hopefully it will remain unconfirmed, and just a rumor!
