In case you haven't guessed it, I am someone who likes to have the last word in an argument. John Wilkes Booth intended to have the last shot in a horrible war...

...and as for this failed - it was allegedly this gentleman:

...Captain James Waddell of the CSS Shenandoah who fired the less spectacular last two shots of the CW on June 22, 1865, when he took aim at a fleeing Union whaling fleet south of the coast of Alaska (and I haven't only guessed but known thus expect some sort of double punishment now...)

Waddell is one of my favorite historical personalities. He was branded by Northern newspapers as a sort of modern day Black Beard {He was, of course, no such thing, it was just that he could not be bested on the high seas, so, slam him in the press. How novel}.
