Eva, THANK YOU. Due to the fact that you mentioned Good's book I decided to thumb through it. And I finally found where I had read the 1,000 figure. (I mentioned earlier that I could not recall the source but knew I read it somewhere.)

In the Preface Tim Good writes, "Approximately one thousand patrons attended Ford's Theatre on the evening of April 14, 1865."
