RE: David Herold's dog
Here is the article -
I also read (I think it's in "The Evidence") where Spangler, when caught by the authorities, was clutching a small puppy. This must have been the little dog which he spoke about. Of course, we're all familiar with Arnold's "Dash"..... I don't know if Mrs. Surratt had any pets, although John Surratt, Jr. speaks of Nora Fitzpatrick's pet cat at the Surratt boarding house. (Weichmann's True History) Powell had numerous pets, according to his family - a dog, a cat, guinea hens, a pet goat as well as the infamous mule who kicked him in the face at age 12. He also had a favorite thoroughbred bay mare when he was riding with Mosby. According to the Payne family, Powell had several mounts and these horses were left at one of the Payne farms when he went through the lines to go to Baltimore in January of 1865. Apparently the horse he sold in Alexandria was not his pet mare. Booth had his colt, Cola, but does anyone know if O'Laughlen or Dr. Mudd had any "pets?" I would also bet that Mudd had hounds about his farm. Quote:The book I've been working on will have mention of all of this. Let's hope we are all alive to see it one day. John - we'd better be alive! I wouldn't miss it for the world! "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |
