RE: Did Lincoln Regret Marrying Mary?
Roger, I have also read that Tad attended the conspiracy trial with Robert at least once before the executions and that he also testified at the John Surratt trial. One of the drawbacks to owning and reading as many Lincoln books as I have is that I forget where I read what....

Gene, I was so DISGUSTED after reading that Carnegie is supposed to have written that AL's greatest tragedy wasn't the assassination but his marriage that I decided not to read his book. The idea that AL would have considered a bullet to his brain more desirable than being allowed to remain with the family who adored him and a country that desperately needed him-is one of the most idiotic and cruel statements I have ever read about anyone! I very much enjoyed Ruth Randall's book. She is sympathetic to MTL without resorting to exaggeration or hagiography. |
