I think Dr. Mudd would have to be Booth's primary care physician and meet all the demands of Obamacare. Booth or Herold would also need a GPS system in one of the saddlebags to refer to as they navigated the roads, streams, and swamps of Southern Maryland.

On a side note, Dave and Lindsey went to hear Sarah Vowell speak at St. Mary's College in Southern Maryland on Friday night. For those of you who may not have heard of her, she is a sarcastic (sometimes funny - usually obnoxious) author of such books as Assassination Vacation. In the case of that book, she gives a travelogue as she travels from one assassination site to another. It's one of those books that I giggled through and then stopped and thought, "Darn, she's downright rude!"

During her presentation, Lindsey reports that a girl in the audience asked why she was so hard on Maryland. She used Booth as an example of a despicable citizen of the state, etc. Her main reason, however, seemed to be because she got lost on the way to Mudd's house! Poor preparation, I would say, on her part. All she had to do was ask while she was at Surratt House. She irked me in the book by making fun of our guides. Evidently our setting the stage as to what life was like in Southern Maryland and for the Surratts during the Civil War didn't appeal to her. All she wanted was to see where Booth had stopped. Fortunately for us, she did comment that her traveling companion enjoyed the general history...

P.S. I need to find out what state she is from. Maryland really does rank pretty low on the chart of ones having the most despicable and dishonest citizens in their history.
