Let's look at it this way.

At the start of the civil war, a large amount of the population believed slavery to be morally wrong, but the government said it was legal.
Today, a large amount of the population consider homosexual marriage and/or abortion to be morally wrong, but the government says it is legal.

My point is, don't expect the govenment to set the standard or be the example for what is and isn't morally right.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?
