Reconstruction was over for all practical purposes by 1870. Tenn was readmitted in 1866, all other states on July 28, 1868, and the four laggards, Va, Tex, Miss, and Ga (reconstructed twice in 1868 and again in 1870, after the st leg threw out all black reps after being readmitted the first time) by 1870. All that was left was to suppress the KKK by 1872 and from there on out open white violence against Republicans (white and black) took the Southern st govts one by one until 1877, as the North tired of saving their brethren in the South.
