Episcopal Church Prayer for the Condemned
I was wondering something a few weeks ago - and decided to look up an 1865 Episcopal Prayer Book. Found one online. I was particularly curious as to Lew Powell and his relationship with Reverend Stryker. Powell was a Baptist, son of a Baptist minister and had been baptized as a Baptist at age 12 by his dad. He had, however attended the Episcopal Church while living in Baltimore and had befriended Reverend Augustus Stryker whom he requested to visit him before he went to the gallows. There is a prayer for condemned prisoners in the prayer book and I was wondering perhaps if Stryker read this to Powell. Undoubtedly, Dr. Olds read it to Davey Herold and more than likely gave him communion.
