A great history of Washington DC during the Civil War. Written over 70 years ago, it is still relevant, still pretty much historically accurate. I especially enjoyed the chapter about Mary Lincoln. It is a long book, (500+ pages) so don't get one with small print, otherwise you may feel like you will never finish reading it. I think it' worth the extra money to get it in hardcover.

There are several good reviews on line, but I think this is one of the better one's.

Gene, why did you enjoy the chapter about Mary Lincoln?
