Interesting. Though contrary to what that historian said, I don't think there were any calls for Mary Lincoln to testify at the John Surratt trial.

Yeah, I have never heard of anyone having interest in having Mary Lincoln testify. I'm not sure what benefit either side (prosecution or defense) would gain from having her do so.

Related to other parts of the interview, after his father's death, Tad did seem to mature. And although at the time of the assassination he was functionally illiterate he eventually did learn to write and speak with a much less prominent or maybe even absent impediment (and I think he learned to speak German too). Such a shame he died at 18 when he really seemed to have turned a corner. And the effect of Tad's death on Mary was understandably devastating.
