RE: Who is this person?
A very wild guess: - Emory Parady's son.

RE: Who is this person?
Good try, Roger, but it isn't Parady's son.

Bonus clue: This man was known professionally by two different names. His real name was the one he generally used, but he used a pseudonym on various occasions, especially later in life.

Logical guess Joe, but it's not him.

Think about Tarbell.

RE: Who is this person?
Based on the color line comment and his connection to Tarbell, I would strongly guess Ray Stannard Baker. But I have no idea what his Lincoln Assassination connection might be other than he helped found The American Magazine with Tarbell and maybe might have helped with Lincoln articles?

RE: Who is this person?
Steve ,
You are correct that it's Baker. The connection to the assassination came in 1897 when McClure's Magazine published his article on the capture of Booth based on papers from his uncle, Luther Byron Baker, who was part of the Garret Farm Patrol and who was related to Lafayette Baker, who had overall command of the search.

Baker worked for the magazine until 1906 when the break with McClure's happened. In addition to writing articles under his name he also wrote under the name of David Grayson. Interestingly there are schools in Michigan named for both Baker and Grayson. Also, if you ever watch the show "Home Improvement" the character of Randy has a picture of Baker in his bedroom although it is never mentioned who it is.

RE: Who is this person?
Wow. Rob, I can't believe the idea of a possible Baker family connection never even popped into my head. The name was right there even if it was a common one.

Kudos!

No googling please.

What person, often mentioned and discussed on this forum, slept in this bed?

RE: Who is this person?
What popped into my head is Mary Lincoln in her room at the Batavia Asylum.
