RE: Spring Speaking Schedule for Dave, Kate, and Jim
Thanks for the support, Tom. When I was originally asked to speak for the benefit of Rich Hill and Port Tobacco, I was under the impression it would be a normal speech about Booth and/or his conspirators. It was only a few weeks ago that I was told that they were expecting a first person performance. While Kate can do that extremely well (as you will all see at this year's Surratt Conference banquet), I'm not quite sure how I will be at it. As you can see I'm embracing it but there is a good chance that this will be my only first person performance as Booth.

Also, I'm hoping that by the time March comes around I'll be able to grow an appropriate enough mustache. I've been testing it out and growing a little bit of one recently. When I get a chance I'll show you the progress.

I tried doing No Shave November after getting back from LA, but I guess I'm at the age where my facial hair isn't coming in evenly. Also while up all night watching Election Results, I was itching a lot at my beard. So I shaved it right when Hillary Clinton called to concede the election.

Dave -

Trust me, you can do this! It's easy.....I used to do Living History quite a bit. My first "character" was Elizabeth Van Lew and I was an immediate hit! I also did Mary Chestnut and Davis' housekeeper, Mary O'Melia at the Confederate White House. She was my favorite impression because I got to speak with a brogue! I played a local woman, Mrs. John Allen, at Meadow Farm Museum every Christmas for years.

Just put everything you know about Booth into first person. You become Booth - trust me, with your knowledge, you'll do great!

We'll keep tabs on how your 'stache is coming along.....!Big Grin

Sounds like fun, Dave.
Ditto what BettyO says.
Booth's diary gives a lot of insight into his attitude while he was on the run.

Hope you have someone make a video of it.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

Thanks for the advice and well wishes all. We'll see how it turns out.

I just put up a picture on the Surratt Docents thread which shows my progress thus far at growing a mustache. http://rogerjnorton.com/LincolnDiscussio...l#pid62357
I've essentially grown everything out so that my meager mustache won't look so pathetic. This is about 3 weeks of not shaving my mustache at all. I've trimmed the beard a couple times because it was was looking too unkempt. I'll keep growing the mustache and see what comes of it.
