So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

I was always too short to get on one of those things back in 1890 when I was ten...

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
Speaking of Jack Lincoln I am quite familiar with this sad picture:
But Cowen's Auctions had a close-up of Jack's face in bed that I do not think I have ever seen before: http://www.cowanauctions.com/auctions/it...x?id=99205 |

It has always struck me that "Jack's" bike had the small wheel in front. I've never seen that elsewhere. This tree currently stands in a city that has many links to the "Lincoln saga". Where is it? |

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
Since Mary's family was from Lexington, Kentucky, I will guess Lexington.

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
This is a very smart guess, Roger, but I am sorry it's not Lexington. But you are correct in the assumption that this city has ties also (!) to Mary. (Truth to be told I had always imagined Lexington as a smaller city without any high buildings! But I think my phantasy cheats me likewise about many other places.)

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
I'll guess Chicago. Isn't that building on the right, Bob & Emily Newhart's condo building?
Sure looks like it to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-PLEhiOeVA So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
Vicki and I have been to the Gamble Plantation a few times, but I do not remember exactly what the fireplace looked like. But I will guess the Gamble Plantation in Ellenton, Florida, where Judah Benjamin hid for awhile in 1865.

My next guess will be the fireplace at President Lincoln's Cottage (Anderson Cottage).

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
Kudos, Roger, that is correct! Here's the entire photo:
You win this presidential stocking to hang out for Xmas: You may also try it tonight instead of boots because tomorrow is St. Nicholas Day, and the "Nikolaus" will fill good children's (of all age) boots with little gifts and candy. Sometimes he requires a poem to be recited, and since I know some of you speak German, here's a standard (and beautiful) one to prepare (written in 1862 by Theodor Storm): http://www.pinselpark.de/literatur/s/sto...ssvom.html (And yes, I can recite it! Theodor Storm also wrote this famous tale: http://www.theodorstorm.co.uk/translatio...master.htm ) Now get your boots ready for tonight! |
