Dare I guess Dr. Squibb? The book had no picture of him, and I didn't go searching. Thanks for the compliment about the article. Each essay in that book is very well-written and easy to relate. |

Yes Eva, it is Jesse Root Grant, father of Ulysses S. Grant. Your prize, a tour of Jesse's tannery in Port Pleasant, Ohio.
Jesse was quite a character. "When Ulysses went on to the White House, Jesse visited often. Newspaper reporters found him eager to comment on the business of the day. Jesse had always loved politics. In his younger days, he had written for an abolitionist newspaper and even served a term as mayor of Georgetown. But his son Ulysses did not always feel so happy about his father's comments, which probably continued until he died in 1873, at the age of 79."
