His wife, Mary Hunter, was related to Francis Scott Key--so, F. Scott Fitzgerald was related to Mary Hunter!

Hmmmm - she's also then related to Philip Barton Key; son of Francis Scott Key who was shot to death outside the Old Club House; Seward's residence, by Daniel Sickles in 1858. Key had been "philandering" with Sickles' beautiful young wife, Teresa.

In the final stages of the war, the push to get it over was strong. Sherman's March to the Sea burned buildings, crops and lots of infrastructure. "Sherman's Neckties" were rails pried from the RR, heated and tied around trees. The Yankees were relentless. But stealing kid's toys? Could even the Yankees be that low? What little girl bemoaned, "The Yankees stole my doll"?

That's it, Laurie! Dubbed "The Silent Witness" by the young officers who tossed it around on the porch (RTL included), Lula's doll was kept as a memento by Capt. Moore of Gen. Sheridan's staff. Here's the story.
