1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - RJNorton - 05-25-2013 04:26 AM Bob Cook sent this 1901 photo of Booth's grave. It's from Leslie’s Weekly Illustrated – May 18, 1901. The photo has an interesting caption at the bottom... RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - LincolnMan - 05-25-2013 04:54 AM And his children? RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - BettyO - 05-25-2013 06:28 AM I'm sure it means Junius Brutus Booth and HIS children....but it's still worded oddly..... RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - Rsmyth - 05-25-2013 07:31 AM Or, someone got the story confused when the Booth children that died young were moved from Tudor Hall and buried on top of him. RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - DanielC - 05-25-2013 09:07 AM Interesting Article: http://ideas.time.com/2013/05/07/unwanted-bodies-where-terrorists-serial-killers-and-assassins-are-buried/slide/john-wilkes-booth Are there any accounts i.e. newpapers, or other sources of who attended JWB burial in his family plot? RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - J. Beckert - 05-25-2013 11:03 AM On June, 26, 1869, Mary Ann Booth and her children Edwin, Junius, Rosalie and Joseph, (Asia did not attend) buried Booth in the family plot, surrounded by a "large group of relatives and friends". The pallbearers were actor friends, but I don't remember any names. The minister was Rev. Fleming James. RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - Laurie Verge - 05-25-2013 12:27 PM And Rev. James was quickly dismissed as priest of his parish. I had never seen reference to the suggestion that Booth be buried at the threshold to Ford's so that everyone would walk on his grave. Interesting idea. RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - Tom Bogar - 05-25-2013 02:56 PM One of the better accounts of the reburial, aside from primary sources, is Bryan's Great American Myth, pp. 310-315. RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - RJNorton - 05-25-2013 03:51 PM Tom, thanks for mentioning Bryan's book. It is one of my favorites. I am amazed at the prices being asked for this book. RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - Dave Taylor - 05-25-2013 04:12 PM And it's free for downloading and reading here: http://archive.org/details/greatamericanmyt00brya RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - L Verge - 05-25-2013 04:14 PM Those prices are ridiculous. We sell new copies at Surratt House for a lot less. And it is a great book. RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - DanielC - 05-25-2013 05:05 PM Thank you all for the information! Best, Dan RE: 1901 Photo of John Wilkes Booth's Grave - BettyO - 05-28-2013 06:33 AM I found my copy of Great American Myth (hardback) at a yard sale about 25 years ago for $5.00 - and it's autographed by Bryan!
