Get to work, Jim - Rhatkinson - 05-01-2013 08:36 PM

In reading Dave's post about Jim's excellent new book, I was reminded of Jim's project to document the "then and now" of famous locations associated with the assassination. This is an area of history that I am greatly interested in, and so I cannot wait for Jim to finish this book so that we can all read it. Issues like "where exactly was Souper's Hill amd what does it lpok like now" are fascinating to me. I would suggest that Jim quit his job and get to work on this book, pronto. Smile

I've been trying to figure out how to earn a living at this Lincoln Assassination stuff. I am very fortunate to be part of a team and have the best partner in these endeavors. About 4 years ago, I emailed Rich with a question and boy oh boy, what a long and winding road we have traveled. We just always remember, it's not the destination, but the journey.

I'm really looking forward to the artifacts book. I second Heath's request that Jim & Rich get crackin'! The first book was great. Kudos on a stellar job, men.

So true, Jim! My own "journey" has been filled with wonderful friendships and tons of fun....

I, too can't wait to see the next installment of your book! Great going, guys!

Just a teaser...
The next book was due to come out towards the end of the year but it may be much sooner than that.
Jim is caught between time periods channeling Booth and the Grateful Dead. I am constantly having to edit out hidden Neil Sedaka verses from our work.

Just another teaser...

Rich and Jim will be presenters at the 2014 Surratt Conference.

That is a great idea and will be a welcome addition to the Lincoln assassination field of study. As I have traveled around to various Michigan sites of interest, I'm always wanting to know the exact spot of things-then and now. For instance, Radical Republican Zachariah Chandler's house where he lived in downtown Detroit, is long gone. Now the Detroit Free Press building is there. William Seward was once an overnight guest in the house. Chandler's church is about a block or so away from where his residence was. Its still an active church. To be at such historical sites brings one closer to the people and the era. Do most people care? No. We're an odd bunch, I guess!

We will be the first presentation after lunch. Enjoy the luncheon punchWink but don't have more than two cups, we don't need any overdoses. We will do a combined psychodelic light show with a presentation on the odd simalarilities between Jerry Garcia and the Booth mummy.

Ala Jim Jones and the electric cool aid acid test.

RE: Get to work, Jim - L Verge - 05-02-2013 07:43 PM

Is it too late to rescind my invitation to have you speak??? Sounds to me like the two of you have had more than just luncheon punch. Could it be dinner knock-out?

RE: Get to work, Jim - Rhatkinson - 05-02-2013 09:11 PM

I am very much looking forward to the conference. I hate that I couldn't make it this year. Laurie, can you tell us who any of the other speakers will be?

Good to hear!

Confirmed to date (still codjutating on some candidates): Barry Cauchon and John Elliott, with each having their own hour to display their talent and knowledge regarding Inside the Walls at the penitentiary; and Jason Emerson, speaking on Giant in the Shadows with an emphasis on how the assassination may have impacted RTL.

That sounds great. I can't wait.
