Excellent article, Maddie. If you ever get the chance to hop across the Pond and visit the D.C. area, make time in your schedule to visit the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Maryland - about an hour's drive from the city. Excellent dioramas as well as other displays that put the gory details of Civil War battles and wounds into context.

Laurie, you do fine as long as you're not talking about Booth's wound. Maddie, thank you for posting this link. Makes me wonder if the folks 150 years from now will look at pictures from 2013 and think how crude we were in our medical techniques.

Maddie, Fantastic photo's! I don't know how those solders and doctors got through the war knowing that at any time they would be the one on the operating table. Great article Maddie. Best Gary

Its been said that by the war's end, there was hardly a city, town, or village in the North or South that didn't have a resident veteran that was missing a limb from service in the war. How sad...
