Thanks to Jim and Betty - Rhatkinson - 04-19-2013 03:25 PM

I just want to publicly thank Jim for taking his day to personally take my brother and I around DC to see assassination sites. To say he is an encyclopedia of knowledge doesn't do the word justice. We saw everything from the Rathburn house to Herold's grave in Congressional Cemetery. I cannot thank him enough.

I also would like to thank Betty for her help in getting us access to the courtroom in Grant Hall. It is amazing and I will post some pictures of the courtroom and exhibits in a bit. I finally was able to learn where the gallows were in relation to the tennis courts, and it was not where I originally thought.

Heath & Josh, you are most welcome. It is a great pleasure to share the history of the Lincoln Assassination and how it affected the country, this city, and it's people. I trust a good time was had by all. Next visit we will get Dave Taylor!!!

Well you boys certainly had the best tour guide there is for D.C. Another job well done, Jim!

Yes indeed! You had a great tour guide in Jim, Heath!

Glad to oblige getting you into Grant Hall. Heard from Susan today and she was delighted that you got a chance to see the trial room!

Dave can also give a wonderful tour!

As soon as Dave gives the word, we will be training him to narrate a few of our Booth Escape Route bus tours each year. These are so popular that we need more help in order to spell our regular guys. Bob Allen has been narrating for twenty years and drives nearly two hours to get to the museum. John Howard has been doing the narration for about five years and drives from New Jersey to help us. We are blessed to have such wonderful friends.

Amen to Bob and John, and looking forward to Dave. The Surratt Society"s spring and fall escape route tours have been so successful for all these years because of the talent. While they could easily double or triple the number of tours, they don't. I assume because they have no intent to water it down. You have to have the human talent, and you can't buy the kind of talent it takes to lead a multi level group over 150 plus miles and 10 plus hours. Great work by all associate with the tours.

We have just left Ford's on the tour and Eric with the NPS was great. Very awesome to get to walk into the theatre alone (I was ahead of the group since Jim took us to see the Ford's museum yesterday.) Eric even allowed me to go to the family circle and try and recreate a photo of the box from Brady's viewpoint (attached.)

Really enjoying Bob so far.

Heath and Josh,

Sorry I couldn't be at Surratt House to meet you this morning. It's my first full weekend off, however, in about five weeks. I'm glad you had Eric had Ford's. He's a treasure - and a Surratt Society member to boot. As for the rest of our gang of Booth Buffs, I think you will find that everyone is very caring and very giving of their time and knowledge. They love their topic and they want to share it.
