Thanks for the verification on this, Laurie!

Josh and I were also surprised at this when we went to McNair and wondered why it was there -

Thought that it was perhaps a prop used in one of the prison sequences from Redford's Conspirator - poor Lew looks like he either wants to be fed or hugged! HA!

Totally awesome. Thanks Betty!

It WAS an awesome experience, Bill! I wish each and every one of you could have attended at least one of the premieres - very memorable indeed!

Be sure to watch Sunday night - you will be thrilled! By the way - one more word -- Tom Hanks does an outstanding job (nothing less expected from Mr. Hanks!!) as narrator. His commentary is subdued, scholarly and at times very affecting - wonderful choice!

Okay, Laurie...time to spill! Any problems/inaccuracies/gripes reported by the intrepid Surratt Society Secret Service?

And, thank you, Betty for your terrific coverage of our premiere!

Erik, congratulations on all the accolades! They are certainly well-deserved. It just has to be a wonderful feeling to know your hard work is so appreciated by all. The show sounds absolutely marvelous and makes me wish I weren't retired and still in the classroom. I would have loved to discuss your production with my students. Kudos on a phenomenal accomplishment!

I think this site will not have much activity on Sunday evening until after the show. Then, this thread is going to blow up.

RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-14-2013 07:03 AM

I certainly agree, Jim!

And Thank YOU, Erik for giving us this wonderful experience! Trust me, although I loved Redford's The Conspirator, that film has NOTHING on Killing Lincoln !

Yet another great review!

Has anyone observed that Tom Hanks has more interest in Lincoln, perhaps, due to being in the Hanks bloodline?

RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-14-2013 08:14 AM

You could be more or less correct, Bill ! I've always admired Tom Hanks - great actor and great person -

RE: Killing Lincoln - LincolnMan - 02-14-2013 09:04 AM

Me too, Betty!

RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-14-2013 09:07 AM

Adrian, Erik, Mark Herzog and Mr. Scott made a wise choice in Hanks - a very wise choice. Just goes to show you how professional and wonderful Killing Lincoln really is - I can't wait for Sunday night!

I asked Adrian Tuesday night about DVD's - he said that he didn't know just when they would be out - but hopefully soon! I'm certainly buying one!

Many years ago I did some geneological research in southside Virginia. I went to Hat Creek Pres. Church about 45 minutes south of Lynchburg and near the metropolis of Naruna. Hat Creek Pres. is the oldest Presbyterian church in that part of Virginia and it has a female Hanks buried there. The headstone is very worn and there is no longer a written record of the woman.

My only problem is the movie is being shown at the time when AMC's The Walking Dead will be on. Forgive me folks, but I love that show! My wife hates it!

Jim and Bill, you gave me a chance to mention a new book written by one of our forum members, Vicky Reany Paulson. It's entitled Abraham Lincoln's Hanks Family Genealogy. Vicky is a direct descendent of Thomas Hanks, the oldest brother of Lucy Hanks. Her book is for sale on Amazon here and at Barnes and Noble here. Vicky has a website here. Kudos, Vicky!

So last night I went ahead and set my DVR to record this, and I noticed that Nat Geo has it running three times consecutively from 8:00 p.m. Sunday night to 2:00 a.m. Monday morning. Nice. I hope the DVD does come out pretty soon too, and I hope it's chock full of behind the scenes extras. I'm not yet sure how I feel about Tom Hanks doing the narration. I've long criticized the use of celebrities for voiceovers and such, but I'm sure Hanks did a good job and I'm sure it will help draw in viewers. Getting pretty excited about this.
