James Tanner - Steve - 04-27-2018 07:21 PM I came across this article from a few years ago about James Tanner that I thought might be interesting: http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20150412_AS_HE_LAY_DYING.html RE: James Tanner - STS Lincolnite - 05-07-2018 02:42 PM Thanks for posting this Steve. I have wondered in the past where those notes were. I would love to see them sometime. Tanner was an interesting man and lived an interesting life. His transcribing testimony at the Petersen House was only a part. For those who may want to learn a little more about him, Marquette History Professor James Marten wrote a biography for him entitled America’s Corporal: James Tanner in War and Peace. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KLONXCM/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 Dr. Marten gave a nice talk on the subject of Tanner a couple of years ago at the Surratt Conference and also spoke about him at a recent Civil War Institute Conference. I had hoped one of his talks on Tanner had been recorded for c-span or otherwise but I wasn't able to find one posted. |
