Buried in Concrete - Rsmyth - 03-20-2018 06:34 AM

In another post Betty O mentioned that Lewis Powell is buried under 6' of concrete. We know that for security reasons Lincoln and George Pullman were also. In the case of Lincoln, it was his son who was worried about the remains being disturbed. There had already been one attempt. Pullman himself was worried that former workers or union sympathizers would take revenge on his corpse.

Who else took these precautions?

Ned Kelly an Australian highwayman was mentioned in the article Roger posted. His life and death had similarities to Lewis Powell including his burial and a missing skull. Wikipedia has a good right up on him.

I didn’t read the other post that Betty O wrote but am wondering what the concern was with Lew’s grave?

Bill, I am not sure what you are referring to, but when Eva was traveling throughout Florida several years ago she took some photos of the cemetery where Lewis Powell is buried. Here are a couple of Eva's photos:

After Powell's funeral in 1994; as the guests and family were leaving, the cemetary workers poured concrete over Powell's coffin before he was buried. This was done to deter theft or desecration and it was at the family's request. The mahogany coffin is encased in a little tin vault as well. As a side note, Mike Kauffman helped to lower the coffin into the grave.

I'm aware of Ned Kelly, but don't know much about him -
