Something that seemed very important to Lincoln occurred on October 31, 1864

One of Roger's attempts is directly related to that event on 31 October 1864

the event had some long term influence on Washington DC (obviously) ... but primarily it happened on the other side of the US

(Googling is fine by me)

I am totally "lost." Wild guess - earthquake?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - AussieMick - 04-08-2024 07:29 PM

Nope, Roger. But thanks for sticking with me.

Googling a timeline might help ( though possibly my previous searches could influence what I, as opposed to another person, might see)

What you've found so far ...

The election was a major factor relating to the answer.
What, apart from the votes of ordinary citizens, is the determining factor in a Presidential election in the USA?

The telegraph was down because the constitution of Nevada was being transmitted by telegraph so that Lincoln would get the state's three electoral votes. It was, according to a history of Nevada, the longest and costliest transmission over the telegraph wires.

The issue about the weather (Gene mentioned) ? ... "Two out of three of its votes from the electoral college were cast for Lincoln. (The third voter got stuck in a snowstorm.) "

In 1862 Abraham Lincoln sprained his wrist in checking his run-away horse as he rode from the Soldiers' Home to the White House. Nearly two weeks later the wrist was still so sore that he sought treatment from a doctor. What was the doctor's name?

Dr. Zacharie, I believe?

RE: Extra Credit Questions - RJNorton - 04-10-2024 04:50 AM

Very good, Michael - indeed he went to Dr. Issachar Zacharie, a chiropodist. We have discussed him before on this forum. Lincoln sprained his wrist on September 13, 1862, and he saw Dr. Zacharie about the sprain on September 25, 1862.

I am not sure why, Rob. It's an ordinary .jpg image that shows normally on my computer. I checked it in 3 browsers.
