Is this Booth? - RJNorton - 11-29-2017 10:48 AM I received this email today: "Hello, I came across an old photograph at an estate sale of a fella that resembles Booth considerably. The Photo was taken by a photographer known as H.G. Smith who had a shop that opened in 1862 in the Studio Building of Boston. This building was built as studios for artists and had a theater as well. If this is Booth I have not seen this image before of him. Attached is a photo of the photo. Thank you for your time and consideration." I wrote back and asked the person if I could have his permission to post the photo and ask forum members what they thought. The response was that it would be greatly appreciated. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ RE: Is this Booth? - Thomas Kearney - 11-29-2017 10:50 AM I'm going to say that it's not JWB RE: Is this Booth? - Dennis Urban - 11-29-2017 11:08 AM Not a chance. No pics of Booth with hair like that. Features too dissimilar. RE: Is this Booth? - Gene C - 11-29-2017 11:44 AM Personally I think he looks more like John Surratt than Booth https://boothiebarn.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/john-surratt-icon.jpg?w=1400 (photo from Boothie Barn) RE: Is this Booth? - L Verge - 11-29-2017 11:49 AM I agree with Gene, but it is not John Surratt either. RE: Is this Booth? - Susan Higginbotham - 11-29-2017 12:06 PM Nice-looking chap, though. I'd love him for my collection. RE: Is this Booth? - BettyO - 11-29-2017 12:13 PM Not JWB nor is it Surratt - close resemblance at a quick glance, to JHS though. From the collar of the coat, I'd have to say that he may be a priest? Strange clothing.... RE: Is this Booth? - Steve - 11-29-2017 03:27 PM No it's not Booth. You might want to compare your correspondent's photo with a photo of Booth like the one below. I would point out the differences in the two men's ear lobes. The photo is interesting though, especially the man's clothing. RE: Is this Booth? - JMadonna - 11-29-2017 08:08 PM He looks like someone who may have had enough resemblance to be lynched right after the assassination. Jerry, your post made me think of the people who were arrested or detained because they resembled Booth. One was Andrew Jackson Rogers, a New Jersey member of the House of Representatives. He was arrested on a train near Wilmington, Delaware, and released when he proved he was a Congressman. Andrew J. Rogers
