Remember When? - RJNorton - 10-13-2017 02:19 PM Many thanks to Laurie for sending this interesting link: http://www.vintag.es/2017/09/gilmore-oils-gas-teria-one-of-first.html RE: Remember When? - L Verge - 11-14-2017 03:09 PM John Fazio just sent me some interesting old photos to share: http://douglascountygensoc.org/photos002.html RE: Remember When? - Steve - 11-14-2017 03:39 PM Indeed, a very interesting group of photos. I like the rural mail delivery and schoolchildren meeting the bison photographs the best. RE: Remember When? - RJNorton - 11-14-2017 03:46 PM I wonder what President Harding would have thought regarding the photo from the days of Prohibition. "Warren G. Harding's escape was twofold: from the pressures of the office and limitations of Prohibition at the Chevy Chase Club, where members were incensed by his imbibing on the course. Release came from Edward McLean, owner of the Washington Post and of a private golf course, where waiters appeared with Scotch-and-sodas every four holes or so for Harding." http://articles.latimes.com/1997-06-12/news/ss-2679_1_capitol-games RE: Remember When? - L Verge - 11-14-2017 07:03 PM (11-14-2017 03:39 PM)Steve Wrote: Indeed, a very interesting group of photos. The old school teacher in me enjoyed the photo of the 1930s, primitive schoolroom with the pot-bellied stove and the children sitting on benches that appear to be supported by stumps of logs. I am amazed at the amount of money that is spent on our school buildings today and wonder if the quality of the education goes up in proportion to the seeming luxuries that are in the schoolrooms today. I'm still naive enough to think that a good teacher is the most important element in the educational process. RE: Remember When? - Gene C - 11-15-2017 08:03 AM The old student in me agrees with you. But that was back in the day when most parents knew how to help their 4th grader with his math homework. New math - If Johnny goes to Burger Doodle and uses his debit card for a FatMac Combo meal and lets Suzzy use it for her Double Quarter Pounder Veggie Super Sized Combo meal, what is the overdraft fee that will be applied to his account if his beginning balance is $0.15 ? |
