You've seen Waud's sketches, Laurie. The most popular is the sketch of Ford's showing the box and "the spot on which the man jumped". His sketches were very helpful with the restoration of Ford's to it's 1865 appearance.

There is a fellow down here in North Carolina that gives a good impression of Alfred Waud at reenactments and living history venues. He dresses the part and can even sketch like him. I have tried my hand at sketching. Unfortunately my hand is not too goodSad

Here's a drawing by Waud in Harper's Weekly - who wants to bet that the Arsenal drawing is also by him?

Wow, I had never seen Lew Wallace as an older gentleman-but I can tell that it is him.

Thank you all! I must admit that I seldom look for an artist's name on old engravings. I guess I better get up to speed.

What assassination book was tentatively titled "Dark Passage" before being changed at the suggestion of the publisher?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Rsmyth - 11-25-2012 12:04 AM

Personal Traits of Abraham Lincoln by Helen Nicolay?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Dave Taylor - 11-25-2012 12:44 AM

I'm afraid not, Rich. My book was written by a man.

Dave,
This is just a wild guess, but was it Dark Union by Ray Neff?

Craig

It is Ray Neff, Craig-with Dr. Leonard Guttridge-I have the book.

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 11-25-2012 09:51 AM

Blood on the Moon?

RE: Assassination Trivia - Dave Taylor - 11-25-2012 11:04 AM

Still not right. My book predates Blood on the Moon and Dark Union.
