This should eliminate many possibilities: Hint #1: The year the quote was made was 1883.

RE: Assassination Trivia - Gene C - 01-17-2014 05:32 PM

Judge Joseph Holt?

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 01-17-2014 06:02 PM

Excellent guess, Gene, but it was not Holt.

RE: Assassination Trivia - L Verge - 01-17-2014 06:09 PM

George Alfred Townsend?

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 01-17-2014 06:17 PM

Excellent guess, Laurie, but it wasn't Townsend.

RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 01-17-2014 07:06 PM

(It's sure wrong-) Louis Weichmann?

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 01-17-2014 07:19 PM

Excellent guess, Eva, but it's not Weichmann.

RE: Assassination Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 01-17-2014 08:08 PM

John Ford?

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 01-18-2014 05:45 AM

Another logical guess, Eva, but it was not John Ford.

Hint#2: The person said this while being interviewed. Part of the interview was discussed many months ago on the forum, but not the part where the person gave his summary of Mary Surratt.

RE: Assassination Trivia - BettyO - 01-18-2014 08:39 AM

Hancock?

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 01-18-2014 09:20 AM

Yet another excellent guess, Betty, but it's not him.

Hint #3: I read the quote in a book authored by a member of this forum.

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 01-18-2014 02:29 PM

Hint #4: 'Gath' conducted the interview with this man.

RE: Assassination Trivia - Gene C - 01-18-2014 02:48 PM

Sam Arnold?

RE: Assassination Trivia - RJNorton - 01-18-2014 02:58 PM

Yet another logical guess, Gene, but it wasn't Arnold.

RE: Assassination Trivia - L Verge - 01-18-2014 03:05 PM

I don't have my copies at home, but check books written by Tom Turner, Ed Steers, or Kate Larson. All are members here who have written on Mrs. Surratt. I still don't know the answer. Wild guess: U.S. Grant?
